PickaXe Films is an independent production company founded by award winning indie filmmaker Helen Lyons-Curran.

After producing and directing various indie shorts, Helen wanted to create a company focused on producing independent film with high production value.

Helen's previous work has gained numerous awards including a ROYAL TELEVISION SOCIETY award for best North West student drama, and best cinematography at THE US HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. Her work has toured the UK and US festival circuit being nominated for direction, and art and design.

Pickaxe's debut project, the thirty minute gritty horror/thriller ENDS MEAT, tells the tale of a taxi driver with a wicked secret. The screenplay, written by BBC Writersroom finalist Kris Heys, takes place over one night in the City of Manchester. The film premiered as part of  GRIMMFEST 2018, with  further screenings to follow.

The collaboration between Kris and Helen on ENDS MEAT, has paved the way for a feature script, currently in development. PickaXe is constantly striving to produce engaging work with strong narratives. Up next is the short horror anthology 'Ménage à trois', a tripple bill of twisted valentine's tales.

PickaXe has both shorts and features currently in development. The company is always looking for individuals and talent to collaborate with. If you're passionate about independent genre film you can contact us by email at: info@pickaxefilms.com
